High-Visibility Speaker Microphone for Firefighters
Ergonomics for Enhanced Safety and Communication
Helix assisted L3Harris with the development of their XG-75P/XG-75Pe Two Way Portable Radio Microphone. Designed for the specific needs of firefighters, the ruggedized form and controls are glove-friendly for easy operation.
A Closer Look At The Project
Helix worked closely with local firefighters throughout development to ensure ease of use and the success of the design.

Project Objectives:
- Understand Firefighters’ needs for interfaces, alerts, and mounting
- Define the industrial design for a specific market segment – Fire Fighters
- Select Materials and Processes suitable for the extreme heat and environments required by Firefighters
- Prepare a CAD database around the existing components in an appropriately-sized volume
Helix’s Approach:
- Work with local Firehouses to understand current needs
- Prepare multiple ID concepts solving ergonomic and aesthetics directives
- Prepare volumetric foam models for ergonomic evaluation
- Create an exterior surface model of the design to be handed off to the L3Harris team
Product Solutions:
- Multiple concepts funneled into a single direction for refinement
- Production intent CAD database in CREO of exterior geometry
- Design intent reviews with the L3Harris Engineering team
- Photorealistic images for early marketing purposes
